Dr Carly Rosewarne has recently joined AMGA as the Research, Development and Extension Manager. Her position encompasses two roles that support the mushroom industry. She will work closely with Hort Innovation to optimise delivery of the mushroom RD&E investment program, and manage RD&E projects facilitated by AMGA.
Carly has a research background in microbiology, including a PhD from La Trobe University followed by a ten-year career at CSIRO. Her research involved using DNA sequencing approaches to study microbes in different contexts including ruminant livestock production, human health and nutrition, and food safety. Highlights include contributing to the discovery of a red seaweed (Asparagopsis) that can reduce methane emissions from cattle and sheep; and receiving a Fulbright Professional Scholarship in Climate Change and Clean Energy to support a 5-month sabbatical at the United States Department of Energy Joint Genome Institute.
Prior to joining AMGA, Carly was the Innovation Funding Manager at Elders Rural Services. She was responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of research and extension projects, with the overarching aim of bridging the gap between R&D outcomes and adoption on-farm. Carly worked collaboratively with growers, advisors, researchers, industry partners, and funding bodies including Hort Innovation to deliver impactful outcomes across the agriculture sector. She is excited about the opportunity to combine her interest in microbiology with her expertise in RD&E project management through her new role with AMGA.
In her spare time, Carly enjoys gardening, cooking, and spending time outdoors with her husband and their golden retriever named Panko. She is looking forward to discovering new recipes where she can combine mushrooms with home-grown produce to make delicious and healthy meals for friends and family.
Carly is looking forward to being a part of the Hort Innovation RD&E advice mechanism, and overseeing and delivering a diverse range of R&D projects to support the Australian mushroom industry, to drive value for grower levy investments.
