Mushrooms are the ‘fun-guy’ in class!

The Australian Mushroom Growers Association has developed the Mushrooms in Schools program, to help primary school educators teach students all about the mighty mushroom!

Mushroom education is important at a primary school level, to ensure children are aware that mushrooms are not a fruit, or a vegetable – mushrooms are fungi and belong to a separate food kingdom to fruits and veggies. Being fungi, mushrooms grow in a very unique way and have a completely different nutrition profile too.

About the Mushrooms in Schools program.

The Mushrooms in Schools program, developed and funded by the AMGA, offers a variety of free resources to assist in-class learning for primary schools. These include free lesson plans and resources and once a year, FREE MUSHROOM KITS.

10 FREE Lesson plans

Lesson plans are all linked to the Australian Curriculum and encourage enquiry based learning.  Subjects include Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Science and much more.

A "Mushroom Library" of videos and resources has been created, to further assist students understanding about the unique life cycle of a mushroom and how they grow.

Free Mushroom Kits

As part of the Mushrooms in School program, once a year the AMGA provide free mushroom kits to schools, to aid in-class learning. Kits are limited, so we encourage you to register early!

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED FOR THE 2024 PROGRAM

 

We are now inviting schools from all over Australia to register their interest for the 2025 Mushrooms In Schools Program.

Managed by the Australian Mushroom Growers' Association, the program will run throughout Term 3 2025, with mushroom growing kits delivered to schools by the last week of Term 2, ready for a Term 3 start.
